Dining Hall Replacement

Camp John Currie | Benton, KY

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife enlisted PFGW Architects to aid in the design and construction of a new dining hall at Camp Currie in Marshall County, Kentucky. Each year approximately 1,500 Kentucky students grades 4-7 attend this co-educational summer camp during the months of June through August to embark on activities such as Archery, Boating, Firearm Safety, Fishing, Outdoor Survival and Swimming.

The existing camp dining hall exceeded its useful life with a dire need for more capacity in the dining area. Demolition and removal of the existing dining hall and kitchen were necessary for the project.

The first floor of this new facility is 9,706 square feet and includes a kitchen, serving area, walk in freezer, walk in cooler, dry goods area, laundry room, men’s and women’s restrooms, concessions space, multiple storage areas, trash room, mechanical and electrical room, janitorial room, and office space.  The basement area is 3,787 square feet of space that includes two large storage spaces and a multi-use area.
