Paducah Sports Park
McCracken County
Sports Tourism Commission | Paducah, KY
The McCracken County Sports Tourism Commission is creating a regional sports tourism destination for baseball, softball, soccer and other field sports. The Paducah Sports Park will be located on the former site of the Bluegrass Downs horse track and the historic Stuart Nelson Park in Paducah, Kentucky.
The program for the complex includes 9 multipurpose fields and will have connections to the existing Greenway Trail that runs along the northern border of the complex. Site amenities will include batting cages, shade structures, play structures, conveniently located parking and landscaping.
A crucial component of the project is the redevelopment of Stuart Nelson Park, which is owned and operated by the City of Paducah. The park served the African American community as a public park and is named after Dr. William Stuart Nelson. Dr. Nelson was a respected educator and world renowned peace activist. A plaza and gathering area is planned for the center of the new facility to celebrate the history of the park and Dr. Nelson and will accommodate cultural and community celebrations.
Planned Amenities Include:
- Playgrounds
- Splash Pad/Spray Ground
- Shelters
- Designated Public Use Areas
